ISSUE # 149
LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
There is a lot of celestial activity this month. Jupiter enters Taurus, Neptune retrogrades, and Saturn goes direct.
When Jupiter was in Aries it was the initiator of many new ventures for a lot of us. New projects were started, and plans were put into motion. Now as it enters Taurus we can use this earth sign to build a strong foundation upon which Jupiter can continue to expand. Projects that are going into their 2nd phase now will do quite well and should show growth throughout this coming year. Taurus rules the 2nd house of money, and often when Jupiter transits here the stock markets go up. But Jupiter can simply exacerbate any situation it enters, and if the stocks are heading down, this could increase their fall precipitously. Also, the Jupiter – Saturn opposition we experienced may restrict any growth. The stocks and commodities have taken a big hit lately. Our economy is not improving fast enough to prevent the 2nd dip that I always predicted. When Saturn opposed Jupiter this year it was a strong indicator that the stocks will close the year out lower than they began it.
The retrograde of Neptune implies that the issues that Neptune holds domain over, including things of a spiritual, religious, or artistic nature will be internalized to be viewed from a different perspective. The direct motion of Saturn shows that issues of reality, such as business, finances, or buying real estate will begin to work more in our favor, and have a better chance of coming to fruition while Saturn is direct. The outer planets retrograde a good deal of the time. By working with the retrograde and direct motions consciously, we can improve our reactions to these slow moving energies and work more successfully within the yearÕs cycle. When a planet is retrograde, donÕt expect it to manifest its energies in the external. Bring the issues inside and examine what you want and need from what that planet represents in your life. Once it goes direct you can more easily use its force in the outside world.
Uranus will square Pluto repeatedly over the next 4 years. This difficult aspect will have a strong influence over our culture. As I have said in past newsletters and interviews, it is manifesting, among other ways, as the battle over entitlement programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid, pensions, etc. With the deplanetization of Pluto we have attempted to turn our collective backs on the very concept of shared wealth. Pluto was discovered when it was in square to Uranus (ruler of enlightenment), and it is fascinating that the collective demotes Pluto right before it squares Uranus again. It was discovered in 1930, just in time for the last depression. We are entering a similar period in many respects. Recessions, defined as 2 or more quarters of negative growth, come and go even within a depression. In the 30s there were years of positive growth, even as unemployment was 20% and higher. I donÕt want to sound too negative, but I think we should be psychologically prepared for a very long period of sideways motion. The battle over the entitlement programs will carry over into the 2012 elections, and right through the midterm elections in 2014. They will not be settled at least until the 2016 presidential election, which will be a watershed moment for our fledgling nation. We are still a very young country and we continue to redefine our purpose and national identity. With Pluto and Uranus hitting AmericaÕs chart as powerfully as it is, we can expect some change in our definition.
If we are, in fact, slipping into a depression it will not expand here, but in China and other booming emerging markets. The backlash to too much expansion, especially in a saturnine period, is like a rubber band snapping back. If ChinaÕs exploding middle class suddenly finds itself on the unemployment line (as if, in China!), you will see a global collapse. China is doing pretty much what we did before our crash – expanding on credit and the philosophy that you should grab what you can when the grabbing is good. Europe is being held together by Germany and France, at the moment. Eventually the weight of Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, etc will be too much for them to handle and the Euro could be severely damaged. Japan is a non-player. Globalization, which has become a reality over the past few decades, shows that we will either grow or teeter on the edge of collapse as one world unit.
This monthÕs New Moon and full Moon are both eclipses. Do not expect things to go exactly as planned. Try to keep an open mind and a clear head. For those of you who have experienced the effects of an eclipse on one of your planets you know that this energy can create unexpected events, sometimes with powerful results. With back to back eclipses you can be sure that there will be some excitement; hopefully of a pleasant kind. But be prepared for the unexpected.
The New Moon falls on Wednesday June 1st at 5:03 P.M. EST at 11 degrees Gemini 02 minutes, and it is an eclipse. Eclipses are difficult to understand. Sometimes they are benign and other times they will create huge events in your life, especially if they hit a sensitive point in your chart. The light is blocked, and things seem to occur in the darkness, without warning or seemingly without logic. When we have back-to-back eclipses, such as this month, the month will not go as planned. Much will be occurring in the shadows, and it is important to try and clarify whatever you are doing. Circumstances, events, and relationships will not fall into the usual pattern and if you arenÕt paying attention they could create havoc in your life.
Because this is a Gemini New Moon eclipse, it is in your communications that most difficulties will occur. I have found that when the eclipses are prominent we donÕt seem to have as much control over events. They seem to have a life of their own. Be prepared to hear some things you may not have expected. It could be good or bad, but it will be a surprise. The only way to be prepared for anything is to meditate. Other than that, all you can do is be open-minded and aware.
MERCURY ENTERS GEMINI:
On Thursday June 2nd at 4:03 P.M. EST the winged god enters the sign of its rulership. People will be very chatty until June 16th when Mercury enters Cancer. While it is in Gemini we will all be a bit more nervous and seek instant responses and explanations. Try to have some patience. While this may be quite exhilarating for you, not everyone can keep up with the quick, some need the slow, and this can be a difficult transit for them. Short journeys will abound and it would behoove us all to get out and see the world a bit. A long walk or a drive in the country will open your mind and allow your thoughts to flow more readily.
MERCURY SQUARES NEPTUNE:
On Friday June 3rd at 3:07 A.M. EST this most confusing of aspects completes. Be careful until this passes. Confusion and misunderstandings are common, and it is easy to make mistakes in paperwork, conversations, or while traveling. For the day or so leading up to this transit, caution is required. Distractions and misdirection will prevail and it is up to you to be aware and take precautions. Double check all paperwork and plans, drive defensively and if your find yourself daydreaming let someone else drive.
Also on Friday June 3rd at 3:07 A.M. EST Poseidon begins his walk backwards. This planet rules many things including; healing, medicine, drugs, fine art, movies, music, fantasies, dreams and spirituality. These are the issues that will be internalized and reflected upon. Any of those that personally affect you will be where this is focused. If you have had medical problems, they may go into remission, or you may have an intuitive idea of how to solve them. You could find a solution for a creative venture that has been blocked and begin to push it to the next level. But this will happen on an internal plane, and this is not the best time to present this work to the outside world. If you can wait until this goes direct to show your movie that would be probably be best. But many great works of art have been released under a retrograde Neptune. Of course the outer planets are retrograde a great deal of the time, so it is only when this planet first retrogrades that this is most prevalent.
JUPITER ENTERS TAURUS:
On Saturday June 4th at 9:56 A.M. EST the planet of expansion enters the 2nd sign of the zodiac. Financial issues will expand. This does not mean that there will be a rally in markets; in fact this could exacerbate a move in the stocks either way. But we will be more aware of the situation in our markets. Some commodities prices will explode. Expect to see another run up in cotton, and many of the agricultural markets, such as wheat, soy beans, etc. This is inflation waiting to explode even more. Jupiter takes a year to go through a sign, so as the coinciding aspects create the atmosphere over the next 12 months, we can all witness what the planet of expansion means when it enters the sign that rules money and values.
MERCURY TRINES SATURN:
On Wednesday June 7th at 4:40 P.M. EST our thoughts take a serious but productive turn. This is a great aspect for dealing with paperwork, plans and responsibilities. It isnÕt a heavy energy like the square or opposition between these two; itÕs more malleable and can be directed where we need it. This isnÕt a day for frivolous thoughts, conversations or activities. Stick to the important issues and make the most of this.
VENUS ENTERS GEMINI:
On Thursday June 9th at 10:23 A.M. EST the planet of love and possessions enters the sign of the twins. People will be more fickle and intellectual about their relationships for a while. Try to conquer the mind, not the emotions. Expect changes and some erratic behavior. Emotions will be unsettled and you may be surprised by the sudden change in someoneÕs feelings. Talk things out in your relationship and you can use this energy to your advantage. Being too emotional will not work now. This is a cerebral air sign, not a weepy water sign.
VENUS SQUARES NEPTUNE:
On Friday June 10th at 4:25 A.M. EST romance will take a most confusing turn. DonÕt believe everything you are told on that first date. Illusions are strong and you may see only what you want to see. Be careful of your money. It could simply seem to evaporate. And watch your intake of alcohol and drugs (legal or illegal doesnÕt matter to astrology).
THE SUN CONJUNCTS MERCURY:
On Sunday June 12th at 7:45 P.M. EST a willfulness with accompany most communications. People will be more direct and straightforward in their speech. If you have something to say, do so in an honest way. You will accomplish more and the other person will be grateful for your clarity. This will be a busy day with all sorts of communications and errands.
SATURN GOES DIRECT:
Also on Sunday June 12th at 11:52 P.M. EST this most stressful of planets turns around and many things will begin to manifest in the outside world. Business issues that have been delayed will start to move forward again. It is always best to begin a new business with a direct Saturn, if possible. The energy is in a projected form and can be better used. This may represent a small boost in the housing market, although the problems in that business are not going away anytime soon.
This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Wednesday June 15th at 4:14 A.M. EST at 24 degrees Sagittarius 23 minutes, and itÕs an eclipse. No sign blows things out of proportion like Sagittarius, and most Sag Full Moons are exciting to say the least. If this hits your chart just right you may experience some event or interaction that expands your consciousness and your perspective. Use caution, as with any Full Moon, but get out into the world and explore. Travel will enlarge your perspective quite a bit.
MERCURY ENTERS CANCER:
On Thursday June 16th at 3:09 P.M. EST we will all begin to experience our thoughts in a more emotional way. Feelings and thinking will interact, just like a Mercury – Moon connection. It may be difficult to separate the two for the next few weeks so try to analyze things in a detached way, if possible. Conversations may be more emotional, and the past will be quite prominent in most of our minds. This is a good time to express your feelings and to let someone know how you feel about them.
MERCURY TRINES NEPTUNE AND SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Friday June 17th at 12:53 A.M. and 8:35 P.M. EST respectively these two positive aspects complete. This is a day of spiritual contemplation and creative endeavors. Try to use this inspirational and imaginative energy constructively. Any artistic venture you are involved in may gain from this, especially if it sets off your chart. Most of us will enjoy the arts today and should find the time to at the least engage in them as spectators.
MERCURY SQUARES URANUS:
On Saturday June 18th at 4:11 P.M. EST this very nervous and erratic force will prevail. This is an argument or an accident waiting to happen. There isnÕt much control in this transit, and people will act and talk in an explosive and unexpected manner. Use caution in your conversations and when traveling. There is a lot of combustible energy around and it must go somewhere. People will speak without thinking (not such an unusual event), but they will also drive the same way. This completes at 4 degrees cardinal, so use extra care if it activates your Mercury, Mars, or Uranus.
MERCURY OPPOSES PLUTO:
On Sunday June 19th at 3:18 P.M. EST a lot of people will be looking for an argument. But this isnÕt like the Uranus square mentioned above, which would come out as a sudden and explosive fight or reaction. This is deeper, more focused type of energy. Anything that has been festering may very well be brought to the surface now. You may have to contend with someoneÕs deep felt angst and it will not be easily satisfied until the issue has been thoroughly examined. This can also manifest as a hidden agenda that you may or may not gain knowledge of. DonÕt assume you know everything that is going on. You may be unpleasantly surprised.
MARS ENTERS GEMINI:
On Monday June 20th at 10:50 P.M. EST the god of war enters the sign of the twins. This will give more power to conversations and add an element of ego. With Mercury in Cancer now and Mars entering Gemini, you can expect an overly emotional bent to communications. A feisty undertone will prevail and we will all experience some unabashed anger, either from within or from the outside world. DonÕt allow your ego too much power or it will get you into trouble. Speak softly, and donÕt carry a stick at all.
THE SUN ENTERS CANCER:
On Tuesday June 21st at 1:17 P.M. EST we enter summer. This sign is family oriented, and July is the month for group activities. August is more for romance. For the next month we will be in water; swimming through our past as we attempt to chart the choppy waters of love. No sign is more emotional or more loving than crabby old Cancer. If it is not your nature to embrace this side of life, this may be an uncomfortable month for you every year. Perhaps the lesson is one of acceptance and compassion. Anyone with some planets in the water signs will wish to be near the shore or a lake while the Sun and Mercury are in Cancer. Venus will replace Mercury in this sign as it moves into Leo, continuing this energy through the personal planets.
MERCURY SQUARES SATURN:
Also on Tuesday June 21st at 2:42 P.M. EST a most serious and contemplative transit completes. This is a day of heavy thoughts and weightiness to our actions as well. Communications may be quite hard for many of us, and if you do find it difficult to say whatÕs on your mind, just wait until this passes. Bad moods or even depression is possible, but only if you are prone to it to begin with. Travel will be difficult as well, so expect delays and frustration.
MARS SQUARES NEPTUNE:
On Wednesday June 22nd at 2:47 A.M. EST this ego-deflating aspect comes along. It is very difficult for Mars to express itself in an assertive way when Neptune is afflicting it. There is a desire to escape reality, often through alcohol or drugs, which could lead to an outburst if someoneÕs ego is bruised. If this energy is directed through music, acting, or art it may produce some excellent results.
THE SUN SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Saturday June 25th at 7:54 P.M. EST this most positive and expansive transit affords us an opportunity to see the bigger picture. Try to get out today and enlarge your perspective. Any traveling you do will be very positive for your consciousness. This is a good day to begin studying any new subject or for a philosophical discussion. Most people will be optimistic and outgoing, so enjoy the positive energy. Because we are heading towards the Sun square Uranus early tomorrow morning, I would suggest a bit of caution and limitations, especially once this completes.
THE SUN SQUARES URANUS:
On Sunday June 26th at 6:14 A.M. EST this dangerous and stressful square will complete. Explosive and unexpected events are possible, and you should be extra careful this morning. Arguments or accidents are certainly possible, but they donÕt have to happen to you. This can produce feelings of nervousness and irritability, and some of us may not sleep so well. Although all transits begin to wane as soon as they are completed, this energy could linger all day. And with the Sun about to oppose Pluto in a few days, I wouldnÕt assume anything has ended at any exact time. If the stocks are ripe for a fall, it could happen this week.
THE SUN OPPOSES PLUTO:
On Tuesday June 28th at 1:18 A.M. EST this powerful force is present. Because this completes early in the morning many of us will escape its direct energy. But it will still be present whether you are asleep or not. In fact, many intuitive or psychic people may have strange dreams or awaken around the time this completes. The markets will move today, although in which direction? It is a powerful enough aspect to make a difference in the stocks and commodities. Usually strong outer planet hard aspects so near the dark of the moon represent a fall in the equities. I see no reason to assume otherwise here. And since this closely follows the Sun square Uranus mentioned above, I expect this end of the lunar cycle to drop the stocks like the sack of useless paper they are printed on.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Wednesday July 1st at 4:54 A.M. EST at 9 degrees Cancer 12 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ÒdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
All times are Eastern Daylight:
