LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
ÒThe eastern world, it is explodingÉÓ
This Egyptian government came into being June 19th 1953. The time I have is 1:30 A.M. but I have not had a chance to verify this. Whatever the time, the chart is very telling. There is a Saturn, Neptune conjunct in square to Mercury and Uranus. This shows the repression of Saturn on the speech and media. Neptune in square denotes the lies and deception that has been a way of life since its inception. With Uranus, planet of personal freedom, in square to Saturn and Neptune there is little chance of the population gaining much freedom while this government is in power. It has a Sun – Moon square, implying that this entity has a conflict between what it wants and what it needs. In other words, this nationÕs natal chart is wrought with conflicts and repression.
So what happened? Transiting Uranus, ruler of revolution and personal freedom, is traveling at 27 degrees of Pisces as it prepares to enter Aries and begin a new 84 years cycle. Many things must be pushed aside for the new growth, including governments. Egypt has the Sun at 27 degrees Gemini, and Uranus has been in square to that Sun for the past year and a half. This makes it vulnerable to revolution. And revolution has come on the last pass of this aspect.
But these things do not happen suddenly, although they appear to do so. Egypt has Mars at 3 degrees Cancer and Pluto has been in opposition to it for the past 2 years. This built up the tension, but prevented the actual event until it passed. There has been a lot of anger stirring in the unconscious, and this opposition brought it to a place of no return. Pluto does nothing gently. It will eventually make the changes that will make your situation better, if you follow its lead. But it is rarely a pleasant transit. The world economic collapse has brought a number of nations to its knees. Egypt was one. Pluto pushed against the Mars until its back was against the wall of poverty. Uranus began to square the Sun in May 2009, and completed for the first time in March 2010. There was no way this entity was going to get through this period without some major change. Of course, had the history been different, this could have been a moment of great glory. But this government has no intentions of stepping down, and with Uranus about to square that Mars in May 2011, I donÕt think this will be a peaceful or gentle transition. This period of Middle East revolution will escalate before it is over.
Uranus is getting ready to enter Aries on March 11th. As I said above, this is the beginning of a new 84 year cycle. Changes are taking place on such a grand scale that it is mind boggling. We have seen how the internet (ruled by Uranus) has pushed entire industries to the point of extinction. Those that can adapt will survive those that cannot, wonÕt. The last time Uranus entered Aries movies started to talk. It was a revolution that put a lot of actors out of work. But it opened the door for stage actors to come to Hollywood and be discovered in films. In short, we are beginning a new era of revolution – thereÕs that word again. Egypt is only the first of several countries to topple. But other institutions besides governments will change hands or cease to exist.
This is a moment to look to the future. Jupiter and Uranus are quite powerful together, as we have seen. With their collective entrance into the first sign of the zodiac we are beginning a period of revolution, evolution, growth and expansion. There are geniuses of all ages waiting to tackle the worldÕs problems. This is a chance for them to show their stuff. We may even discover a way out of our oil crisis.
The stocks could go either way, and we will see a lot of ups and downs. I expect them to go up this next period as Jupiter begins its trip through Aries. It could look like the late 20Õs when the bull market lasted until the crash of Õ29. Uranus entered Aires in January 1928. Uranus will squire Pluto for the first time in July 2011. They will dance together in conjunct until April 2015. ThatÕs a long time for such an explosive energy to be in orb. We can expect some major events, reversals of power and revolution of all sorts throughout the world.
As I said last month, the main problem we are facing in the immediate future isnÕt a depression, but the rabid, rampant inflation that is poking its head around the corner. If you shop for your own food you know very well whatÕs happening. The prices are going up while the size of the packages is going down. Shrinking the size of an item and charging the same amount is an old trick in the retail business. But itÕs ballooning out of proportion like most things in our society. Cotton, my old friend, is trading above $1.70 a pound. This is more than 50% higher than it has ever traded in history. Oil will be above $100 a barrel soon. Soybeans, O.J., sugar, coffee, etc will be following suit. We are reliving the 70s and early 80s, the era that followed the last Saturn – Uranus opposition. If you want to make money and you have the guts to do it, trade the commodities. They move fast and furiously, and I have watched seasoned traders get wiped out in a heartbeat. But IÕve also seen regular guys turn into multi-millionaires overnight. ItÕs a tough business, and one that thrives on bubbles and busts. The metals are overbought, but in truth gold could go to $2,000 or $3,000 an ounce and I wouldnÕt be surprised. Still, I keep reminding you that all of these are bubbles artificially created to siphon off profits. Be careful. Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered and become bacon.
The Jupiter - Uranus conjunct is causing havoc in the world. This month we have Jupiter in square to Pluto on the 25th. This is the precursor to Uranus square Pluto I have been anxiously awaiting. Uranus rules revolution and explosions, Jupiter blows things out of proportion. All of a sudden we have a multitude of rebellions in the Middle East.
The New Moon falls on Wednesday February 2nd at 9:31 P.M. EST at 13 degrees Aquarius 54 minutes. Things could get explosive this month. I mean that more on a personal level than a mundane one. This lunar cycle will show us all where we need more freedom and space for exploration. This can occur within an existing relationship, where the parties try to expand their connection through new ventures, experimentation or any innovative actions. Or it could represent the need to step outside the norm and seek some new input. Aquarius is the most unsettled of the signs, and its ruler Uranus is responsible for many, if not most, of the worldÕs worst catastrophes. But it is always the result of suppressed energy or unspoken needs. Revolutions do not happen if there is no tension. Marriages do not break up if the two people feel enough freedom to be individuals. It is only when we repress things and keep them hidden or locked away that they fester and eventually manifest in a Uranian explosive fashion.
MERCURY ENTERS AQUARIUS:
On Thursday February 3rd at 5:19 P.M. EST the planet of thought and communications enters this potentially explosive sign. People will be more forthright and honest, and you can expect some surprises in your communications. Mercury is exalted here and does quite well, although there is a tendency towards nervousness and impulsive reactions. Try to slow your thoughts down and focus them. If you can, this transit can produce moments of inspiration and genius.
VENUS ENTERS CAPRICORN:
On Friday February 4th at 12:58 A.M. the goddess of love and possessions enters this most stoic and repressive of signs. People will be more conservative in matters of relationships and money. Where the mind is actively stimulated and seeking innovation, emotional relationships will be expressing the opposite energy. Any relationship issues that are worked out during this aspect have the potential to solidify and stabilize the connection. There will be some testing, as is CapricornÕs way, but if there is a strong foundation beneath the relationship this transit will just reaffirm the solid footing it is on.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS MARS:
Also on Friday February 4th at 11:41 A.M. this tense and difficult transit completes. This is a day to watch yourself. Many people will be angry and overly assertive, and if it hits your chart just right you could be the recipient or the impetus for aggressiveness. This is an argument waiting to happen. In fact, it could represent a physical altercation, but only if it sets off your personal planets. Step softly and try to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
MERCURY SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Saturday February 5th at 10:30 A.M. EST this positive and optimistic transit comes along. This is a good day for any conversation or other communications. There is a desire to seek the truth and expand our ideas. Travel is favored, especially short journeys. Anything that enlarges your perspective will be to your advantage today. DonÕt just follow your usual routine, but try to allow yourself some time to roam and explore the universe.
THE SUN AND MARS TRINE SATURN:
On Sunday February 6th at 1:40 A.M. and 12:17 P.M. EST respectively these two trines occur. This is a day to get your work done and put things in order. This is a good time to make plans and reexamine your current ventures to see if they are working out. The early part of the day is more about focusing on responsibilities than play, but with Venus about to square Jupiter today as well you may find your mood changing in the early afternoon and your discipline slipping away. Try to use the morning to clear out any work that is weighing on your head.
VENUS SQUARES JUPITER:
Also on Sunday February 6th at 2:39 P.M. EST this most pleasant and undisciplined energy completes. As I said above, your mood may change a bit after noon as this transit approaches. This is a fun-loving and exciting transit. There is little discipline when these two planets get together, so be careful not to overindulge in rich foods or drink. Romance may be in the wind, but with a square it may behoove you to think it out before committing yourself. Is this a wonderful romance, or just a spark of infatuation?
VENUS CONJUNCTS PLUTO:
On Wednesday February 9th at 8:51 P.M. EST love will become deeper and more intense. Any issues that have not been dealt with may come up now. If you are not prepared you could wind up in a discussion or situation that is far more passionate and powerful than you realized. Nothing superficial will suffice, especially in love. If you arenÕt willing to delve deeply, perhaps you should avoid seeing that certain someone until this passes.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS NEPTUNE:
On Thursday February 17th at 4:58 A.M. EST this difficult and confusing transit visits. Confusion and misdirection will reign, and it is important to clarify things. If you do not understand what someone is saying, ask for an explanation. And make sure you are understood. DonÕt assume you are being as clear as you think. This aspect can bring up irrational fears and even psychosomatic problems if it hits your chart just right. So try to put things in perspective and admit that you may not be as sure about things as you thought. This is usually a bad day for the stocks.
This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Friday February 18th at 3:36 A.M. EST at 29 degrees Leo 20 minutes. There is nothing more showy and dramatic than the Leo Full Moon. Everyone will want to be on stage and you may find the theatrics a bit overwhelming. Leo has much to do with creativity, especially any acting. But it also has a lot to do with romance and friendships. Loyalty is very important to Leos. It may be the most important issue in many of their lives. And Full Moons tend to bring things to a head. You may find out where your loyalties lie and who you can count on.
VENUS SQUARES SATURN:
Also on Friday February 18th at 2:21 P.M. EST this wet blanket occurs. This is a repressive and limiting transit that will restrict our feelings and may make it difficult to communicate your emotions. This is not a sociable aspect and I wouldnÕt plan a party while this is in orb. Love affairs and friendships may cool off, but it is only a temporary situation, unless there is an underlying reason to end the connection. This is a good day to make financial plans or go shopping if you are on a budget. You will not feel like spending too much, and your eye towards detail may be better than usual. Seek out bargains and keep your financial house in order.
THE SUN ENTERS PISCES:
Also on Friday February 18th at 7:25 P.M. EST we enter the mutable water sign. This is the end of the zodiac, and Pisces has much to do with completions and tying up loose ends. There is a spiritual and ethereal side to this sign that can be quite powerful. While the Sun is traveling through this sign you must keep one foot in the real world and one in the spiritual. A good balance between the two will teach you much about what is real and what isnÕt.
MERCURY CONJUNCTS MARS AND NEPTUNE:
On Sunday February 20th at 5:44 P.M. and 8:08 P.M. EST respectively this pair of transits complete. The conjunct to Mars will bring a powerful force to your communications. The early part of the day may be active and you may be a bit aggressive in your speech. But it is followed closely by the conjunct to Neptune, which is very much the opposite. Once the conjunct to Mars completes, the energy will change and most of us will become more spacey. Daydreaming and fantasizing are common. You may not be as clear as you think, and as the evening comes on you should use a little caution. Make sure you know what you are doing. Travel in particular may be difficult and confusing. Misdirection is very possible, so double check your travel plans. Back up any important information on your computer and clarify anything that is confusing.
MARS CONJUNCTS NEPTUNE:
Also on Sunday February 20th at 11:19 P.M. EST this egoless transit comes along. Mars does not do well when near Neptune. It tends to squash the ego and the will, and your energy will be quite low. DonÕt plan too strenuous an evening; you may not have the strength to keep up with it. This is not a good time for any confrontation or for making important decisions. Wait until this passes and then tackle the situation.
MERCURY ENTERS PISCES:
On Monday February 21st at 3:53 P.M. EST Mercury will enter this rather unrealistic sign. Until March 9th when it enters Aires, listen more to your instincts than your intellect. Follow your feelings and allow for some fantasies. It may help you keep your thoughts on track. Double check all paperwork It is easy to overlook things when Neptune (Pisces ruler) energy is in play. This placement is very good for artist of all sorts, and musicians especially.
MARS ENTERS PISCES:
On Tuesday February 22nd at 8:06 P.M. EST the god of war and ego enters this ego-less sign. This combination is akin to Mars conjunct Neptune, a difficult aspect. It is more difficult to assert yourself and much deception is possible. Try to force things out into the open and make your confrontations direct rather than circumvent. Most major sea battles throughout history have occurred while Mars was in one of the three water signs. Hey, what do you know, astrology works.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS MERCURY:
On Friday February 25th at 3:48 A.M. EST this common conjunct occurs. This is a day of willful conversations and directness. There is a tendency to be subjective, and believe you know all the answers. Try to keep an open mind and listen to what others have to say. This is often a turnaround for the bonds and soy beans.
MERCURY SEXTILES PLUTO:
Also on Friday February 25th at 12:06 P.M. EST this sextile completes. Both Mercury and the Sun will sextile Pluto this month and this combined force will give us a good opportunity to make some alterations in whatever projects are most important. Sextiles and trines are powerful, but must be used proactively, where the harder aspects will force themselves on your life. Make changes in plans, outlines and contracts.
JUPITER SQUARES PLUTO:
Also on Friday February 25th at 3:29 P.M. EST this most powerful aspect completes. This has been building up since Jupiter entered Aries January 22nd. It is part of the undercurrent in the uprisings in the Middle East. Now that it is completing there may be a quieting down period. There may be a major event on or near this date, but in any case it represents the power struggle (Pluto) in issues of the law (Jupiter). Often when a transit completes there is a release of the tension, and if there is no event by now we may have gotten lucky.
But no matter what, we are heading towards Uranus entering Aries and eventually squaring Pluto. While that square will not complete until June 2012, we will see the tension begin to increase once Uranus crosses the cardinal point. The aspects between Jupiter, Pluto and Uranus have to do with freedom, revolution and deep, radical change.
VENUS ENTERS AQUARIUS:
On Tuesday March 1st at 9:39 P.M. EST love could take a very strange turn. This sign is not only interested in expressing itself in the most unrestricted way, although it may seem that way at times. Aquarius and its ruler Uranus are trying to show us ways we can better express the true inner self. When Venus enters this sign it is through our close relationships that we need to show this. This can be misinterpreted as needed to go outside the relationship, when it is always what is within that we seek. The ability to show yourself to another with all your shortcomings and ugly humanisms is the most liberating thing you can do. And we are all so afraid to do it. What a work of art is man.
Look for unusual encounters and keep an eye out for the unique or bizarre in art or other purchases.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Friday March 4th at 9:31 P.M. EST at 13 degrees Pisces 56 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ÒdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
All times are Eastern Daylight:
