LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
This month Neptune enters Pisces, the sign it rules, for the first time in 150 years. This is a pivotal moment in human history. As we face more and more man-made and ŇnaturalÓ catastrophes our collective consciousness is changing. There are several astrological reasons for this escalation in traumas, especially Uranus entering Aires. Now as Neptune returns to its home base, the individual and the collective will be forced to view things from a different point of view. The last time Neptune was in Pisces was 1848-61. It does little good to examine that era to determine what we can expect now. For one thing the world has changed radically over the past century and a half; we do not live in the same society our ancestors inhabited. And we are now aware of NeptuneŐs existence, so our consciousness regarding its issues is much different. There is light in the room now where there used to be darkness. How much we choose to see in that light is our free will.
Neptune rules the study of medicine, drugs, music, movies and spirituality. All of these subjects will be more Piscean until 2025-6 when Neptune enters Aries. While Neptune is in Pisces there may be a leap in music, film and the arts, and there may be some innovations in medicine. But IŐm inclined to believe that the real advancements in the healing arts will be made when it enters Aries, as it did just in time for our Civil War (1861-5), and the necessity of invention that war produced in the face of its horrors.
I am more interested in the spiritual changes we are being offered. ItŐs a sad comment, but humanity only shows its humane side when it is suffering. And we are at a point in our history when the individual is rapidly being reduced to fodder for the corporate machinery. The deplanetization of Pluto, one of my favorite subjects, has led to the demise or threat to many of the things that planet rules, including all social safety nets, pensions, social security, and all monies held jointly by the collective. In 2006 I wrote a short piece regarding this event. It is posted on my website www.mitchastro.com and I am preparing a lengthier and more comprehensive treatise on the subject that I hope to send out this month.
The collective emphasis has been redirected ever since the crash of Ő08. The crash was caused by a fairly small group of wealthy, powerful people who have used it as an excuse to perpetrate the worst theft in human history. The ensuing budget crises have all been used to power class warfare in its most horrendous fashion. As we see more of the population being pushed aside, the individual and the collective will have ample time and opportunities to stand up and demand changes. Will we do it? I donŐt know. But with Uranus about to square Pluto, I believe we will see some explosive, revolutionary events in our country and around the world for some time to come.
As Uranus dances across the Aires, or World Point, we are seeing the results throughout the world. Revolution is UranusŐ sport, and it is being played all over the Middle East. When Jupiter was conjunct Uranus it escalated and expanded that radical concept to the point where it could no longer be contained within the status quo. Therefore changes were necessary, as with all Uranus transits, and deep-seated, sweeping ones at that.
I have been saying for some time now, as we approach the coming Uranus – Pluto squares we are about to see more nuclear incidences as well as a continued breakdown of governments and collective sharing. Much of the system we have come to rely on is falling apart. Pensions are no longer a guarantee of financial stability; the markets have shrugged off all of the bad news, including the Gulf, the rise of oil above $100 a barrel, and the potential demise of the third largest economy in the world. Does this sound sane to you? The DOW should be at about 8,000. It has pushed above 12,000 and is still showing signs of growth. Of course, until Saturn is afflicted to an outer planet, historically the chances of a crash are very, very slim. The markets are driven by psychology, not fundamentals. And it is only when Saturn feels threatened that we see them collapse.
However, Pluto is the ruler of all things held jointly, including the trading markets, with Saturn representing the underlying stability of the society. When Uranus squares Pluto we could see a precipitous drop in the stocks, either as a result of a nuclear situation, or a collapse of confidence in the world currencies. They do not complete their square for the first time until June 2012, so there may not be another world event until then, but they come close enough for discomfort in July 2011. The last pass of this square is in March 2015. ThatŐs a long time to hold your breath.
The New Moon falls on Sunday April 3rd at 10:32 A.M. EST at 13 degrees Aries 30 minutes. This is the first New Moon of the year, and it represents the beginning of a new cycle. This is a good time to start new projects or move on to the next phase of an ongoing one. Aries is the most assertive of all the signs, and this is a chance to take the initiative and give your ego a longer leash. Start things now and you have the wind on your back. DonŐt be afraid of disappointment; the only failure is not trying.
MARS OPPOSES URANUS:
Also on Sunday April 3rd at 4:52 P.M. EST this potentially explosive aspect completes. This is a powerhouse of energy looking for someplace to manifest. If you are aware and work with this force you can direct it where it can do some good. This is only energy, it is neither positive nor negative, however since this can get out of hand it is important to use this proactively. There is a plethora of Aries energy this month and ego will be running wild. This conjunct occurs at one degree of Aries, and if you have planets between zero and five degrees cardinal you must use extra caution as this will set off your chart.
THE SUN OPPOSES SATURN:
Also on Sunday April 3rd at 7:58 P.M. EST this repressive aspect completes. This may help restrain the Mars – Uranus conjunction and could actually work in tandem, creating an atmosphere of high and focused energy. This opposition works as a wet-blanket and will restrict most things. Moods may fluctuate quite a bit today as we oscillate between excessive, nervous power and repressed or even depressing thoughts. It should be an interesting day. Try to find balance and be ready to change direction at a momentŐs notice.
NEPTUNE ENTERS PISCES:
On Monday April 4th at 9:36 A.M. EST Neptune enters the sign it rules for the first time in 150 years. We are about to see some new innovations and changes in medicine and psychology. But this event goes much deeper in the human psyche. Spirituality and compassion will be the lessons of the coming years. As we face more and more man-made and ŇnaturalÓ catastrophes our collective consciousness will change.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS JUPITER:
On Wednesday April 6th at 10:40 A.M. EST this optimistic and expansive transit completes. This would be a good day for a breakfast get-together, either personal or professional. People will be out going and sociable. We will all be more future-oriented than usual, so any plans you wish to discuss would be well received. There may be a tendency to overdo things or blow them out of proportion, but with a little restraint this can be a very positive and productive day.
On Saturday April 9th at 4:49 A.M. Pluto begins its yearly trip backwards. All 8th house related issues will be more internalized. You may reflect upon your investments, life and death matters, the state of human affairs, or your own sexuality. No matter what you decide regarding these matters, while Pluto is in retrograde you will be absorbing the information and will be better able to manifest it in the outside world once this non-planet turns around again on September 16th. The reversal of motion by any planet is the inhale and exhale of that energy. If we could learn to live more sympathetically with the actions of the planets our lives would run more smoothly and we would achieve more of our goals.
MARS SQUARES PLUTO:
On Monday April 11th at 4:39 P.M. EST this feisty aspect completes. This is a nasty energy that can manifest as power struggles, inappropriate aggressiveness, or even a violent confrontation, but only under the most extreme circumstances. This takes place at seven degrees cardinal, so if you have planets at approximately that degree you should use some caution today. If you can handle the force behind this square you can accomplish a great deal in a short period. The best way to handle it is to work hard and focused throughout the afternoon. Once this passes we will be heading towards the Mercury conjunct Jupiter mentioned below and the energy will change radically into a much more positive flow. It wonŐt happen in a minute, but as the late afternoon moves on you will notice the difference.
MECURY CONJUNCT JUPITER:
Also on Monday April 11th at 11:59 P.M. EST this optimistic conjunct occurs. This comes on the heels of that Mars – Pluto square, and once that transit has completed we will begin moving towards this one. This energy is very outgoing and sociable, so plan some evening event. Because Jupiter is involved, you should take precautions not to overdo things or make promises you can not keep. This is a great time for any conversation, especially if you are trying to make a point. People will tend to be more open-minded and, although we will all want to talk at the same time, if you listen you may hear some important information. Jupiter does rule higher education, after all, and that education cam come to us in a lot of different ways, so keep your ears open.
This monthŐs lunar peak occurs on Sunday April 17th at 10:44 P.M. EST at 27 degrees Libra 44 minutes. All Full Moons represent the peak of the energy for that month. Whatever sign it is in shows us the peak of the energy in that sign for the year, as there usually (there are exceptions) is only one Full Moon per sign. The Libra Full Moon wants to examine relationships in your life. From now until the next New Moon we will all be scrutinizing our closest connections to see how they are doing and if they are still pertinent in our lives.
MARS OPPOSES SATURN:
On Monday April 18th at 12:02 P.M. EST this repressive and restrictive transit comes along. Mars is the ego and physical energy of the entity. Saturn, as you know, will limit and restrain whatever it comes in contact with. This may be a very frustrating day as the force of that Full Moon is restricted by this opposition. Pent up tension and anger may seep out at inconvenient times. But this opposition can also be used to pinpoint where you want that Mars energy to go. If you can handle the frustrations, delays and opposition from others, you can use this in a very productive fashion. Aspects are just energy. How we used them speaks of our level of enlightenment.
THE SUN ENTERS TAURUS:
On Wednesday April 20th at 6:18 A.M. EST we enter the fixed earth sign. Taurus is known to be stubborn and inflexible at times, but it is very stable and loyal as well. This is a time to build a foundation upon which you can expand and move your projects and plans forward. The strength of this earth sign is in its continuity and unyielding force. Pay attention to the energy around you and try to understand some of its strength. There is much power in patience.
VENUS ENTERS ARIES:
On Thursday April 21st at 12:06 A.M. EST the goddess of love enters this Mars ruled sign. Venus doesnŐt do too well here; it tends to act aggressively, which does not suit its femininity. But it can be quite passionate and sexual. Any combination between the male and female planets or signs will stimulate interest in the opposite sex. How it is displayed will be determined by placement and aspect. Here the female within us all takes the leadership role. How well you are in touch with your own female side will also play a large part in how this manifests.
MERCURY GOES DIRECT:
On Saturday April 23rd at 6:04 A.M. EST it is finally safe to go back in the water. Any things that have been delayed should begin to move forward now. Extra caution is called for as this planet reverses direction. There is usually great confusion as Mercury changes direction, especially in travel and communications, expect difficulties with your computers, cars, planes, etc. This is when many errors and misunderstandings take place. It is also when a lot of secrets come out, so keep an ear to the ground (although not in a cow pasture.)
VENUS SQUARES PLUTO:
On Wednesday April 27th at 3:20 A.M. EST love will take a decidedly deeper and more intense turn. We will all be delving into the interior of our relationships and prodding to see which are secure and which may have some hidden problems. Anything that is festering could be brought out into the open, so be prepared for some confrontations. A relationship begun with this aspect will be difficult and anything but superficial.
VENUS OPPOSES SATURN:
On Saturday April 30th at 8:16 P.M. EST a chill will descend upon our love affairs. This is a very sober and reality-oriented transit. There is little room for fantasy, so expect to see the truth about your relationships. This isnŐt a good day for a party or other social event. The mood will be somber and feeling will be restrained. But it may be a good day to shop or for making a budget or other financial plan.
MARS CONJUCTS JUPITER:
On Sunday May 1st at 12:26 A.M. EST this exceedingly outgoing energy comes along. This is a day of big egos and outrageous ideas and schemes. If this hits your chart just right this can be a day of excessive energy and great accomplishments. Of course a word to the wise is always necessary when Jupiter is involved. DonŐt overdo things or make too many promises. And try not to act in an arrogant or ego-centric manner. You could stir up resistance from others and arguments are certainly possible. But they would be the result of egos gone wild (available soon at BlockbusterŐs).
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Tuesday May 3rd at 2:51 A.M. EST at 12 degrees Taurus 31 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donŐt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonŐt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donŐt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ŇdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
