LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 2010

AUTHORÕS NOTES:

Jupiter will retrograde back into Pisces on September 9th and conjunct Uranus once more in the mutable water sign on September 18th. This is an opportunity for many of us to reach deeply into the spiritual and ethereal side of our beings. While you can not afford to lose sight of the material world while living in this modern age, you also can not afford to lose sight of the soulÕs journey. Pisces has much to do with our deeper being. When Neptune, ruler of Pisces is active in your chart you will tend to be less interested in possessions and wealth. Now the whole collective is being given a chance to see just what is important and where our emphasis should be placed. I doubt that the CEO of McDonaldÕs is suddenly going to go organic and give away a billion tofu burgers, but those of us that are receptive to the energies that surround us will recognize some wonderful moments and possibly have an enlightening journey or have a chance to make a real difference in the balance of things.

There could also be another side to this transit. Uranus rules all things explosive, and Jupiter will exacerbate whatever it comes in contact with. We could see some explosive situations, either natural or man-made, around the time of this conjunct. It also could represent an explosion in our higher consciousness. LetÕs hope.

Well, hasnÕt this retrograde Mercury been fun? The L.I.R.R. was pretty much crippled by a fire at the Jamaica crossing adding to the already delightful commute people on Long Island have long enjoyed. There was an earthquake in New Zealand that has apparently produced a new crack in the earth (that should be fun to watch). And more anecdotal tales than room will allow. But while Mercury was retrograde and the world slowed down a bit we all had an opportunity to catch up on some things, listen to ideas, or read something we would normally be too busy to pay attention to. It has its good and bad sides, like most things. Now as it reverses direction we will try to implement those ideas or begin a project that was talked about and planned during the retrograde.

Well, Mercury will begin its direct motion on September 12th, and a word of caution is necessary. There are often many difficulties for the first day or so as this planet changes direction in either way. We are all trying to play catch-up with the paperwork, phone calls, overdo bills, etc. that have accrued while you were at the beach. Now as Mercury begins to move forward you may find yourself stumbling over your own feet, or tongue, if itÕs long enough. Watch what you say, be extremely careful while traveling, and be prepared to be quite busy.

As we watch the DOW play on its trampoline, a long-term side effect of the Saturn – Uranus opposition, more and more are sitting on the sideline. Even hedge funds and pension funds are taking the safe route in bonds and cash. We are seeing highs made by speculation, short covering rallies, or government intervention. The fundamentals do not support a bull market, and wonÕt for many years. Our society was socked by the double crash of October Õ08 and February Õ09, and stood in silent fear as unemployment rushed up. But then the shock settles down and, as primal instinct takes place, we learn to accept what is. We become complacent. We become pack animals. If we do not shake that complacency, the end result will be bad. Whether you realize it or not, we have already accepted the decay of some of the middle class in America. Unemployment wonÕt recover for a decade; neither will the housing market, if, in fact, it ever completely does. Any slightly positive news pushes the DOW up 100 + points in a heartbeat. We expect to lose 150,000 jobs, and only lose 48,000 and you call that a reason for a rally? This isnÕt reality. And with Uranus about to enter Aries in March and begin a two year square to Pluto, exactly opposing AmericaÕs Venus and Jupiter, I for one believe a strong and dominant position is necessary. Pluto deals with power struggles. The square to Uranus will be quite explosive and could shake our very foundation. Because it is so prominent in AmericaÕs chart and affect Jupiter, the ruler of the ascendant, it could even represent some sort of split in our government.

We are rapidly approaching the mid-term elections, and I will post my predictions in October. Frankly, it sure looks like we are about to enter a period of political, financial and cultural stagnation, and if I am right, you know what that means in the coming elections.

I believe there is a reason for all things that occur. I am very much a Jungian and believe in the collective consciousness. We must grow up as a species, and quickly, or we will disappear, a mere smudge in the history of the third rock from the sun. We have become so unbalanced, and so at odds with our environment and indeed our own needs, that a continued trip down this path will lead to extinction. It was necessary for the markets to crash to bring us a reality check. Have we learned anything? I suppose some individuals certainly have. And as Leo Tolstoy once said: ÒEveryone talks about changing the world; no one talks about changing themselves.Ó Has the collective learned? Well, maybe not yet. We arenÕt buying Smart Cars, we make fun of them and give them cute license plates like: ÒPARKABLEÓ, or ÒCOULD U FIT?Ó WeÕre reinventing the SUV, and waiting anxiously for the world to right itself so we can get back to those wonderful credit cards. Ah well.

NEW MOON:

The New Moon falls on Wednesday September 8th at 6:30 A.M. EST at 15 degrees Virgo 41 minutes. Virgo is the most detail oriented of the sign. It rules accountants and auditors. For the next few weeks things will be scrutinized and judged. There is a side to this sign that can be overly critical. But with a little balance this attention to detail can be a very useful commodity. Just try to use a little tact when giving your opinion. It is often more a matter of how we say things than what we say. When Saturn, ruler of banks, entered Virgo in late 2007 the banking industry began to teeter on the verge of collapse, as the auditing showed tremendous weakness.

VENUS ENTERS SCORPIO:

Also on Wednesday September 8th at 11:45 A.M. EST romance will take a very decisive step. Emotions will run hot, and it will become more difficult to keep things on a superficial level. A strong desire to deepen relationships could lead to jealousy or possessiveness, so try to keep things in perspective, especially if the other person isnÕt on the same page as you.

JUPITER ENTERS PISCES:

On Thursday September 9th at 12:51 A.M. EST Jupiter retrogrades back into Pisces to complete some issues left unfinished. Questions of faith and belief will become very important. Until January 23rd 2011 our expansion in the material world will be somewhat limited. Once Jupiter reenters Aries on that date there will be no looking back, so make sure you have tied up all loose ends in business, relationships and your health while this planet travels through this last sign of the zodiac. As I said in the authorÕs notes, this is a time of spiritual growth and a chance to grasp another meaning of life besides the size of your Chase account.

MARS TRINES NEPTUNE:

Also on Thursday September 9th at 9:18 P.M. EST there will be an abundance of usable energy for all creative and artistic ventures, but probably not that much energy for everyday issues. Trines, like sextiles can be focused and aimed where we need them, but only based on the inherent nature of the planets involved. This combination, even in a trine, has limited oomph and can not be called upon to exert the Martian force in anything but a Neptunian fashion. This will include creative and artistic things, healing, helping others or charity, or in a spiritual or ego-less quest. If you are involved in one of these fields, you may find this to be a very satisfying and productive day.

VENUS SEXTILES PLUTO:

On Sunday September 12th at 6:41 A.M. EST we will seek a deeper understanding of our personal and romantic relationships. It will be easier to get to the bottom of things, as long as you donÕt hold back. Take a look at your life and your environment. Anything that requires a refurbishing will be more noticeable, and you may want to start making plans to redecorate your apartment or your relationship.

MERCURY GOES DIRECT:

Also On Sunday September 12th at 7:09 P.M. EST this troublesome aspect completes, but donÕt jump the gun. Sometimes the most difficult part of retrograde Mercury is when it is changing direction in either way. For a day or so, things will be moving at an accelerated pace, and it will be easy to make mistakes or become overwhelmed as you try to catch up. Take a deep breath and try to watch the world from a distance. You will see the confusion and missteps others are taking. Because this takes place on a Sunday, tomorrow will be a very busy day for communications of all sorts. If you have been waiting to hear from someone, or for a delivery of some sort, it should come soon. With Pluto about to go direct as well this may be an important week for the markets.

PLUTO GOES DIRECT:

On Tuesday September 14th at 6:38 P.M. EST this non-planet (!) also reverses direction. Many issues involving other peopleÕs resources and things held jointly that have been delayed will begin to move forward now. With both this and Mercury changing direction together, you may hear some truths that have been hidden for sometime. Surprises are common when Mercury goes direct, and Pluto has much to do with hidden agendas, so keep your ears open and try to brace yourself for any little nugget someone wants to drop in your lap.

JUPITER CONJUNCTS URANUS:

On Saturday September 18th at 9:07 P.M. EST this exciting and unpredictable aspect will complete. We saw these two conjunct in Aries in June 2010, now they are traveling together in Pisces as they move in retrograde. This can be a moment of great exhilaration or an explosive situation that gets out of hand. In fact, it could be both. Depending upon how it hits a particular chart this can bring great troubles or a bolt out of the blue streak of good luck. The erratic nature of Uranus is expanded by its proximity to Jupiter, thus making things extremely unpredictable (a word astrologers do not like, by the way). The desire to seek out new and exceptional people, things and ideas will be strong. By the same token, the expansive nature of Jupiter is being stroked by UranusÕ need for unusual and exciting things. As long as you know what you are in for, this can offer some terrific opportunities. But with Uranus, things are often easy-come, easy-go. And Jupiter tends to be a great big flirt, often with little to back it up. Still, the excitement these two can produce may bring you some once in a lifetime memories. Keep your eyes open and your common sense readily available and you may get a lot out of this period.

MARS SEXTILES PLUTO:

Also on Sunday September 18th at 10:46 P.M. EST this very useful aspect will quickly follow that Jupiter – Uranus conjunct. In an individualÕs chart this will imply the ability to work with others in group activities. The ego (Mars) is working well with the ruler of joint ventures (Pluto), and if you still give Mars co-rulership of Scorpio you can see this as an understanding and accessibility to the energies of that most difficult of signs. That should be the result of this transit in mundane work as well. If it sets off a positive aspect in the individualÕs chart, it would represent the potential to accomplish much using the combined efforts of a group. Hopefully this will help that conjunct result in a focused and directed culmination.

THE SUN OPPOSES JUPITER:

On Tuesday September 21st at 7:36 A.M. EST this optimistic and outgoing aspect will complete. Plan a breakfast with friends or an early morning encounter with your mate. People will start the day with a smile on their faces and a friendly attitude. How it will end, with the Sun in opposition to Uranus, is anyoneÕs guess. The markets may go up today, and could easily change direction by tomorrow morning. Not only is the Sun about to oppose Uranus, ruler of sudden and unexpected change, but the Sun then goes into Libra the next day.

THE SUN OPPOSES URANUS:

Also on Tuesday September 21st at 12:59 P.M. EST this exciting, exhilarating, and at times exasperating aspect completes. This is an explosion waiting to happen. It could be physical or psychological, and it is the unpredictability of Uranus that makes it so hard to pin point. Most of the time, Uranus represents the reversal of things. It opposed Saturn on Election Day 2008 and low and behold, power was reversed throughout the land. It also represented the reversal in the stock markets on most of its 5 passes, including the two crashes of October 2008 and February 2009. As we head into this Full Moon at zero degrees Aries I advise caution for the few days leading up to it, beginning today.

THE SUN ENTERS LIBRA:

On Wednesday September 22nd at 11:09 P.M. EST we officially begin autumn. For those who denounce astrology and say that it has no place in our Òmodern societyÓ, let me just say, the definition of the seasons is: Each season begins when the Sun enters the first degree of the four cardinal signs. The first day of autumn is that first day of Libra, winter is Capricorn, spring is Aries, and summer is Cancer.

This is considered one of the easier signs to deal with, and Libras really donÕt like confrontation. But they usually get what they want, as do all the cardinal signs. But Libra isnÕt direct like its three cardinal siblings. It tends to circumvent and use passive-aggressive techniques to achieve what its opposite sign of Aires would tear into. There are no good and evil energies in astrology, only compatibilities. It is what we do with the forces of our charts that decide whether we are helping of hearing the collective.

FULL MOON:

This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Thursday September 23rd at 5:17 A.M. EST at 0 degrees Aries 15 minutes. Zero degrees Aries is called many things, including the World Point. It is the beginning of the zodiac and aspects that hit there exactly seem to have a more powerful affect on our society. With Jupiter and Uranus in conjunction, and the Sun about to square Pluto and conjunct Saturn, this may be a memorable Full Moon. I think the markets are going to continue to act very erratically, and they could move violently around this date. Caution is always called for near a Full Moon, and with it in this Mars ruled sign we may see an escalation of hostilities in one or more of the worldÕs hot spots.

THE SUN SQUARES PLUTO:

On Saturday September 25th at 8:24 P.M. EST this difficult aspect comes along. Power struggles are common, and anything that is decaying beneath the surface may collapse completely. There will be a strong desire to get to the bottom of things, so expect people to be demanding and prodding. There is a lot of anger in the air, and as the world settles into complacency where joblessness and foreclosures are accepted as commonplace, you will see this anger seething out more and more.

THE SUN CONJUNCTS SATURN:

On Thursday September 30th at 8:42 P.M. EST this tiring transit will complete. You will notice a great deal of lethargy and droopiness to the population. Even if this doesnÕt directly aspect your chart, there will be a drop in the energy level and even some fear. This is not a sociable aspect, so I wouldnÕt plan a party or first date. It probably wonÕt be all that thrilling. If the markets are going to collapse, it may very well be around this time. But since they are manipulated and being held up by government intervention, they may dodge another bullet.

MERCURY OPPOSES JUPITER:

On Friday October 1st at 6:36 P.M. EST this expansive energy will help us move things along. Anything that has been stuck in neutral will get a jolt from this and the Mercury opposite Uranus mentioned below. While this can be an enthusiastic and optimistic transit, there is a tendency to blow things out of proportion or take on too many obligations. If you keep things in perspective, this can be a very useful transit, especially coming on the heel of the Sun setting off the Saturn – Pluto square.

MERCURY OPPOSES URANUS:

On Saturday October 2ND at 10:24 A.M. EST the mental energy will continue to be high, and ideas will flow uninhibited. This can produce great nervousness or anxiety if it hits your chart. Be careful as some people will be working under this influence in a personal way. Accidents are quite possible, as are disputes, temper tantrums and volatile emotions. If you are angry or upset do not get behind the wheel of a car. And if you are driving, do so defensively, as you have no way of knowing how this aspect may be affecting the guy in the other car.

MERCURY ENTERS LIBRA:

On Sunday October 3rd at 11:04 A.M. EST the planet of communication will enter this air sign. There will be an effort made to balance things and keep the peace. Libra hates direct confrontation, and when a planet travels through, it tends to take on the properties of the sign it is transiting. But donÕt be fooled by LibraÕs easy going manner. This is perhaps the most passive-aggressive of all the signs, so while there probably wonÕt be as much screaming and arguing as there would be in, say, Aries, there will still be plenty of maneuvering and jockeying for position.

VENUS CONJUNCTS MARS:

Also On Sunday October 3rd at 5:59 P.M. EST the male and female planets will walk together through our starry night. Because Venus is in retrograde, and this conjunct occurs in Scorpio, the Mars energy will dominate. Expect a certain amount of assertiveness in love, but do try to draw the line at aggressiveness or anger. If a relationship is healthy and intimacy can be expressed, this can be a very fulfilling time. But if there is an imbalance or unexpressed tension, this may be a difficult day.

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

On Tuesday October 5th at 2:08 A.M. EST this harsh aspect will complete. There may be a serious undertone to most conversations, and it may be difficult to find a suitable compromise. If so, just wait until this passes and try again. It will be hard to hide things, as that Pluto energy really wants to uncover things, and Mercury is an incessant gossiper. As with any connection between these two, if you wish to get to the bottom of things, now would be a good time. Just be prepared fro what you may hear.

DARK OF THE MOON:

The next New Moon falls on Thursday October 7th at 2:44 P.M. EST at 14 degrees Libra 24 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ÒdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.

Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.

Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.

The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.

All times are Eastern Daylight:

September 11th 1:16 A.M. – 5:21 A.M.
