LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER

APRIL 2010

AUTHORÕS NOTES:

Saturn will retrograde back into Virgo this month, and that may not be very good news for the banking industry. Saturn rules the banks, and Virgo is the sign of the auditor. When Saturn first entered Virgo in September 2007 the banks were found to be lacking the stability to sustain their position in our culture. As Saturn entered Libra for the first time, the industry seemed to settle down. Now I believe we will see some of the still hidden problems rise to the surface. There are many regional banks that are on the verge of collapse. This transit may be sufficient to tip them over.

There seems to be an epidemic of divorces, breakup of partnerships and reversals of power. The intensity of the Saturn – Uranus – Pluto T-square is affecting the individual as well as the collective, and anyone whose chart is being afflicted by this complicated aspect is likely to experience this as personal difficulties and severe changes in direction and motivation. As we approach the summer and the intensity of this T-square we will all begin to feel the pressure that is bubbling in the undercurrent. Use caution in all things while this is going on. You can expect some compulsiveness and erratic behavior. Relationships of all sorts that have outlived their usefulness will end. This includes personal, business and other associations. If you look around you, you will see that this is already beginning. It will also affect governments and relationships between countries. Any that are based on false assumptions will be redefined.

NEW MOON:

The New Moon falls on Monday March 15th at 5:01 P.M. EST at 25 degree Pisces 10 minutes. Pisces is interested in serving others. This is a lunar cycle that is all about charity and helping. As we head towards the New Year March 20th, this last New Moon of the year has much to do with completion and tying up loose ends. Complete anything that is ready but needs an extra push. You want to clear the decks now to prepare for new projects and ideas. The spiritual side of life will be of interest for many of us this month. Try to open your consciousness to different realities and ideals.

THE SUN CONJUNCTS URANUS:

On Wednesday March 17th at 2:51 A.M. EST this powerful energy is released. This is a day of sudden events, erratic moods and behavior, and basically a lot of nervousness. Try not to act rashly. Impulsive reactions can result in accidents, arguments and major distractions. Drive defensively, and if you are feeling angry do not get behind the wheel of a car (especially in my neighborhood). This will be felt most powerfully in the hours leading up to the conjunct, but its effects will linger throughout the day and caution is certainly called for. Watch your tongue, as you could easily say some inappropriate things. This should be a very volatile day for the stock markets. This is a very explosive energy, and this being St. PatrickÕs Day I would suggest trying to avoid direct confrontations or people who are looking for a fight. It completes early in the morning, and should wane as the day go on. But its energy will still be affective and caution is needed.

MERCURY ENTERS ARIES:

Also on Wednesday March 17th at 12:12 P.M. EST the winged god of communication and travel crosses the Aires point and enters this first sign of the zodiac. It is a time of initiations in plans and projects. Any new idea should be considered, but think things through before you act on them. Aries tends to jump first and then see if there is water in the pool. Now it will be that way with speech and other communications, so take a moment to make sure of what you are saying.

MERCURY TRINES MARS:

Also on Wednesday March 17th at 7:33 P.M. EST this trine will add some fuel to our ideas and speech. Communications will be busy and lively. This will be a day of assertiveness, not aggressiveness, so put your thoughts out there and listen to what other have to say. This is a day to communicate openly and without resistance. Travel should be easy, especially short trips. This should help the parade should move along well, and hopefully ease the affects of the Sun conjunct Uranus mentioned above.

MERCURY OPPOSES SATURN:

On Thursday March 18th at 7:04 A.M. EST this heavy energy completes. This is a good day to get some work done or double check your plans. You will be more attuned to the details. You may find that your perspective is somewhat limited, so donÕt expect to see the big picture. Just take care of whatever is demanding your attention at the moment. This is not a sociable aspect, and with Mercury about to square Pluto, this will be a few days when frivolous thoughts and projects will seem out of place. Most of us will be concerned with the serious topics we are dealing with. I wouldnÕt plan a party or elaborate event until after Mercury square Pluto on the 20th.

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

On Saturday March 20th at 4:16 A.M. EST Mercury will complete its squares to Saturn and Pluto. There is a compulsive nature to Pluto, and while this aspect is applying we all may find it difficult to let go of things. DonÕt act too pushy or demanding. Others will not be apt to give in too easily, and you will only increase the stress this can produce. The past few days may have been rather intense, and as this transit wanes many of us will feel the atmosphere lightening up.

THE SUN ENTERS ARIES:

Also on Saturday March 20th at 1:32 P.M. EST the New Year begins. The first day of Aries is the first day of spring, and by my calendar, the beginning of the year. This is a time of initiations and new beginnings. ItÕs time to make plans or for launching schemes you have been preparing. The cycle of renewal that we use to measure our seasons is just as important within the individual. This is the season of planting and seeding new ideas, changes and experimentations. Take a moment to decide what you want from this next solar journey, and set your goals just high enough so you must strain and stand on your toes to touch them.

THE SUN TRINES MARS:

On Sunday March 21st at 1:54 P.M. EST a nice jolt of useful energy will be available. This is a very malleable force that can be directed into any project or effort. It is primarily a physical energy, and if it sets off your chart you should use your muscles. They will be grateful for the expression. People will be more active during the early part of the day. Later on, the Sun will oppose Saturn, and most of us will feel less energetic and more obligated to our responsibilities. Any exploration or entertainment you wish to indulge in should be done by late afternoon. You simply wonÕt feel like doing it later.

THE SUN OPPOSES SATURN:

Also on Sunday March 21st at 8:37 P.M. EST this wet-blanket completes. This is one of the least sociable of aspects. It usually is a low energy transit, and what little oomph there is seems to be needed to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities placed upon us. DonÕt plan any important activities or gatherings. People wonÕt be in the mood to party.

MARS SEXTILES SATURN:

On Monday March 22nd at 11:55 P.M. EST a useful energy will be present. This is a malleable force that can be easily pushed into projects or plans. It will be easier to work with others in a group effort. Egos are restrained and efforts can be directed where they can do the most good.

THE SUN SQUARES PLUTO:

On Thursday March 25th at 11:44 P.M. EST this decidedly difficult energy completes. There will be power struggles and some compulsiveness. If this sets off your chart you may be the cause or the recipient of this force. You wonÕt be able to sidestep all stress, but try to avoid the useless battles. If the stocks are ready to tumble, this could help set it off. And with the Full Moon coming on Monday, we could have a bumpy ride.

FULL MOON:

This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Monday March 29th at 10:25 P.M. EST at 9 degrees Libra 17 minutes. Many relationships could come to a crossroads on this aspect. Libra rules marriage and all one-on-one relationships, and if there is a problem in the undercurrent of a relationship, it could easily be expressed now. Although balance and compromise are preferred, this sign is very able to take care of itself. Libra is one of the most misunderstood signs in the zodiac. It has a reputation for complacency, and that is an error. This is a cardinal sign, and as such is quite assertive and directed. But it is mostly through a passive-aggressive nature that Libras get what they want. Never mistake a resting dog for a friendly one.

VENUS ENTERS TAURUS:

On Wednesday March 31st at 1:35 P.M. EST Venus enters one of the two signs it rules. This is a very sensual placement, and physical pleasures will be sought. Financial matters will be in the forefront of many of our thoughts, and you could discover some new way of creating income. During my years on the floor of the Mercantile Exchange, this transit become known as the Purim trade in the cotton pits, as I would successfully predict the rise in the price of cotton each year during this transit; and it usually came about the time of that Jewish holiday. This year it falls exactly on Passover. Whatever you call it, letÕs watch the price of cotton futures and see if the cycles remain active.

MERCURY ENTERS TAURUS:

On Friday April 2nd at 9:06 A.M. EST Mercury begins its cycle through the zodiac anew. People will be more assertive in their communications for the next few weeks. Expect to hear exactly what is on their minds. This is not a sign that embraces subtlety or avoids direct confrontation. You would be wise to watch your tongue until you are familiar with the energy in order to elude useless ego conflicts. And drive defensively.

VENUS SQUARES MARS:

On Saturday April 3rd at 7:25 A.M. EST men and women will not see eye to eye (thereÕs a stretch). This is not a great day for a first date or for an important conversation between the sexes. I would give that a try tomorrow when Venus is in trine to Pluto. This can be a creative force if it is applied properly, but remember that egos are quite prominent today, and they could easily upset situations. If you work on a creative project alone you can avoid this potential complication.

VENUS TRINES PLUTO:

On Sunday April 4th at 11:11 P.M. EST we will all wish to delve more deeply into our relationships. Interaction will be intense, but because this is a trine the energy can be used more easily and productively. You wonÕt be satisfied with superficial responses, but unlike a square between these two planets, you can achieve your desired results through compromise and conversation. It will be much more difficult to have that conversation tomorrow when Mercury squares Mars.

MERCURY SQUARES MARS:

On Monday April 5th at 12:17 A.M. EST this aggressive transit will complete. People will be looking for disagreements, and most of us will find more than enough to satisfy the itch. Arguments will abound, so choose your battles carefully. If there is something you need to say and have been avoiding it, this may very well be the day it comes out. But you could also get irritated over the simplest of things, so watch your temper and put your ego in its proper place. Use extra caution while traveling, especially by car. This is an accident waiting to happen; it doesnÕt have to happen to you.

MERCURY TRINES PLUTO:

On Tuesday April 6th at 6:46 A.M. EST that desire to get to the bottom of things will be pronounced. Again, because this is a trine, it can be proactively used in a very productive way. The truth usually shows itself when Mercury and Pluto are in aspect, so keep your eyes and ears open. Important conversation will be possible, and you can delve into the most intimate and hidden of issues without the usual fears.

PLUTO RETROGRADES:

Also on Tuesday April 6th at 10:33 P.M. EST the distant cousin begins to run backwards. For the next few months much of our growth will take place in our subconscious. We are beginning a period of deep introspection, both on a personal level and for the collective. Although it may not be obvious on the surface, we are preparing for some changes that will be implemented in September when Pluto reverses direction again.

SATURN ENTERS VIRGO:

On Wednesday April 7th at 2:55 P.M. EST Saturn revisits this critical sign of the auditor. Saturn rules the banking industry and the housing markets. When it first entered Virgo, the banks shed their cloaks of deception and were seen for the empty shells they had become. Now as Saturn reenters this sign the truth about these industries will become obvious once again. If we are on the way to a real recovery, this shouldnÕt be a major problem. However, if there is still a lot of rot underneath, we may see a large number of bank failures, another severe dip in housing prices, and a general feeling of distress, as we approach the next to last pass of Saturn opposite Uranus on April 26th.

DARK OF THE MOON:

The next New Moon falls on Wednesday April 14th at 8:29 A.M. EST at 24 degrees Aries 27 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ÒdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.

Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.

Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.

The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
