LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
I donÕt even know where to begin. This past month far exceeded my expectations regarding the bazaar. Shall we start with the Supreme Imbecile CourtÕs decision regarding New London Connecticut, the retirement of Justice OÕConner or the jailing of a reporter for protecting her sources? How about the bombing of London? The worst part about all of this is that it is no surprise to me. I have been writing about the two Great Alignments, which occurred in February 1962, and in May 2000, for years. I am preparing a short treatise on the subject culled from various writings and lectures; including a lecture I did several years ago at The Princeton Club in New York City. The swing to the religious right, escalation of hostilities and the always wonderful avian flu were predicted. So what shall we do about it?
Saturn is about to enter Leo; a change of signs for the first time in 2 ½ years. That is approximately how long Saturn takes to travel through a sign, and it is a benchmark used to measure different sections of a generation. Those born with Saturn in Cancer are much different from those born with Saturn in Leo, even if Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all in the same sign for both individuals. Now the world will have to contend with this new energy. While Saturn transited Cancer it put stability and structure in certain parts of our lives. Cancer rules the home, and this was the biggest housing explosion in the history of our nation. Since Saturn rules the opposite sign of Capricorn it is said to be in its detriment while in Cancer. Saturn is more concerned with how things look than how well they function. We will soon see if the housing market represents reality or SaturnÕs attempt to make everything look okay when it really isnÕt. It is a very conservative force that resists change more than any other planet. The past, the tried and true, even if it doesnÕt work is better for the Capricorn/Saturn person. Now that it is leaving Cancer, what will be the results? For one thing, we are paying strict attention to new housing starts. If they begin to show weakness by the end of the summer then my advice is to wait before buying that new home. The prices might come off sufficiently to save you a bundle. If there is no change within a few months I would remain cautious, but somewhat more apt to recommend purchasing. It could take as long as 6 months before weakness in housing becomes obvious. We will know soon.
On Monday July 6th at 8:02 A.M. EST the New Moon falls at 14 degrees Cancer 31 minutes. This New Moon, more than any other, can hit some of us right in the gut. There is a sense of hope about each New Moon, which if cultivated and used properly, can help us time our lives more closely with the natural order of things. For example, you should begin new projects on the New Moon, and complete things on the Dark of the Moon. Each New Moon directs the energy for that month into the arena ruled by the sign in which it is new. The New Moon in Cancer will emphasize emotional needs and point out if these are not being met. The past will become more important and family matters will abound. This can work out fine if you are living a family oriented life. But for many who are alone, this may only show what is lacking. If you feel alone at this time, maybe you should examine your life and see if there is something you could do to change things.
MERCURY CONJUNCTS VENUS:
We begin this lunar cycle with Mercury conjunct Venus in the sign of Leo Saturday July 9th at 5:42 A.M. EST. Communication will be direct and honest, but people will be more playful than usual, and you should take things with a grain of salt. Seek the underlying meaning to what is said, and donÕt take the aggressive nature of Leo too much to heart. They are often just looking to get your goat. Leos love to play, and nothing excites them more than a friendly argument. This is a terrific aspect for all creative people and you should be able to express yourself throughout the coming month.
VENUS OPPOSES NEPTUNE:
On Tuesday July 12th at 12:52 A.M. EST the two octaves of the love energy opposes each other. Love will be confusing, so donÕt assume you know what the other person is thinking. If you meet someone new you should wait a few days before committing your emotions. You may be attracted to an illusion. Also, pay attention to your money; itÕs easy to spend unconsciously while Neptune is active. Be careful of overindulgences in food or drink. Also be careful if you are taking any medication. If this aspect sets off a sensitive spot in your chart you could have a negative reaction.
MERCURY OPPOSES NEPTUNE:
On Wednesday July 13th at 7:22 A.M. EST communications will take on a confusing and irrational tone. If you donÕt understand what someone says, ask for clarification. Also make sure that you are understood. The chance for miscommunication is great. This is not a good day to negotiate or sign a contract of any sort. If at all possible you should wait until this passes and things are clearer.
MARS TRINES PLUTO:
On Friday July 15th 12:31 P.M. EST this positive aspect completes. This is a good day for any type of arduous tasks. You will have more determination than usual, and will be able to get to the heart of the matter. If there is something that needs to be brought to the surface, this is the time to do so. This is a positive aspect that brings with it a sense of balance and fortitude. But you must take advantage of it or it will pass without notice.
SATURN ENTERS LEO:
On Saturday July 16th at 8:34 A.M. EST the devil enters the fixed fire sign, and speaking for all the Cancers our there; boy are we happy! (Sorry Leos!) This planet takes 2 ½ years to pass through a sign, and while in Cancer it weighed very heavily on the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. As Saturn enters Leo we are carefully watching the housing market. This could very well be the top of the bubble in some areas of our country. If you have been waiting to buy a house, pay close attention in the news to the new housing starts and existing housing sales. If we begin to see weakness by the end of the summer (which this reporter believes will be the case), then your chance will come soon.
The world is about to change significantly, and this planetÕs journey is one of the signs we have been looking for. We will know what some of the more significant changes are fairly soon. By summerÕs end things will be different.
VENUS TRINES PLUTO:
Also on Saturday July 16th at 1:10 P.M. EST this positive aspect occurs. This will give a strong sense of foundation to any new love affair begun now. Passions will run deep, but will not necessarily be compulsive. There is a chance to create a balanced and equitable relationship with someone. Coming so close to the aspect mentioned below, this could be a good weekend for couples.
VENUS TRINES MARS:
Venus will trine Mars on Sunday July 17th at 4:27 P.M. EST. This is one of the best aspects for relationships. The male and female sides of things will see eye to eye, and there is a strong desire to get along. The usual animosity between the sexes will be missing. Like all trines you must use this or it will simply pass as a pleasant enough day. Let your friends introduce you to someone, or say hello to a stranger. You never know what will happen.
This monthÕs lunar peak hits on Thursday July 21st at 7:00 A.M. EST at 28 degrees Capricorn 47 minutes. This is the 2nd Capricorn Full Moon in a row; the first was at 0 degrees last month. There is question but this is a time when we are being asked to question our values, and to lay a foundation upon which to build the future. The double Capricorn whammy has hit us where it hurts; the changes in the court, the bombing of London, and the New London decision, which primarily involves property; ruled by Capricorn. All of these are first shots fired in a class war. Though we may not know the outcome, we certainly know where and when it began. This year will be remembered as a watershed moment in our nationÕs history. And you can blame it all on Saturn and Capricorn.
THE SUN ENTERS LEO:
On Friday July 22nd at 1:41 P.M. EST we enter the fixed part of summer; the dogs days (although cat days would make more sense). This is the time for games, romance and childish behavior. While the Cancer energy of last month put family in the forefront, this is the time for the individual to express themselves. Be creative, whether itÕs a novel or sand castles. Let your imagination run free and remember what it was like to be a child. Therein is the key to constant happiness.
On Friday July 22nd at 11:00 P.M. EST this thrice a year fun-filled event occurs. Be careful wile traveling; double check plans and leave extra time for connections. You may experience more the usual difficulties with computers, cell phones, car, boats, planes, clocks, etc. One year the Swiss push their clocks 2 hours back by mistake instead of one hour. Try not to buy any new device having to do with communications or transportation. Conversations take on a more honest tone, and secrets are often revealed while this planet is going backwards, or just when it begins to go forward, so beware.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS SATURN:
On Saturday July 23rd at 1:00 P.M. EST this tiring and unpleasant event happens. This is a day to work, at least until later in the afternoon. If you are planning any sort of social outing you may want to wait until tomorrow. DonÕt push against the universe, work with it. Your rewards will be that much greater.
MARS ENTERS TAURUS:
On Thursday July 28th at 1:11 A.M. EST Mars enters this Venus-ruled sign. There is a clashing of energies while either of the gender planets is in a sign ruled by the other. Egos get confused. People will tend to be rather stubborn and unbending. If you can point out the value of your opinion and its ultimate benefits, the other person may be able to see the validity of your attitude. But if you try to push your views down someoneÕs throat they will be more likely to push back than pay attention. This is also not a good time to redecorate, unless you are doing a sports or war motif. In that case, full speed ahead.
VENUS OPPOSES URANUS:
On Sunday July 31st at 4:07 A.M. EST the goddess of love makes some strange requests. Love will be erratic, flirtatious and unstable. Any affair begun now will certainly be exciting, but I wouldnÕt bet on a joint pension plan. Enjoy the moment. You will be looking for anything unusual or stimulating. The old and warn-out will not work now.
MARS SQUARES SATURN:
Also on Sunday July 31st at 9:57 A.M. EST the ego is suppressed and limited. This is a frustrating aspect, which, if it sets off a sensitive point in your chart, may lead to quarrels and even physical altercations; although this is an extreme response. If things arenÕt going your way you might want to wait until this passes. Since it hits early in the morning it will be easier to avoid than at other times.
MERCURY OPPOSES NEPTUNE:
On Tuesday August 2nd at 4:43 A.M. EST this confusion aspect returns. Because of the retrograde action of Mercury we are seeing this twice this month; the last time was on July 13th (read above). Be careful for a few days. Make absolutely certain that you are understood and that you understand others. Miscommunication is the key phrase with this aspect. This could be a bad day for the financial markets; possibly with some confusing news story attached.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Thursday August 4th at 11:05 P.M. EST. The 2 days leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem.
People often misunderstand this time of the month. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ŅdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Often people, ideas or situations remain long after they have outlived their usefulness in our lives. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak. Take advantage of it by finalizing anything in your life that needs completion.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
